Recipe : Blood orange smoothie for a breakfast full of vitamins

It’s still citrus o’clock, time to enjoy some blood oranges !

The 13th of february here in Belgium is quite an important day since it’s “Mardi gras”. In Binche (a walloon city), some men dress up as “Gilles” for this special day and throw blood oranges in the crowd (this comes from the days when Spain and Belgium had the same king…). And if you are part of the lucky ones who got to catch some oranges in good condition, here is a recipe to use them in a breakfast full of vitamins.

 

And for those wondering about “Gilles” and the blood oranges tradition :

Ingredients : 

  • 1 banana
  • 1 blood orange
  • Almond milk

Preparation : 

  • Squeeze orange and cut banana into chunks.
  • In a blender, combine orange juice, banana chunks and blend until homogeneous.
  • Add almond milk to consistency and blend on very slow speed just to mix everything up together.
